I can’t tell you what happened today. Today I was returning from office. There is a lonely patch that comes in between. I don’t like at all passing that place. It is pretty dark and fishy there. I have seen many roguish looking people over there. But I wanted to reach home early and therefore decided to follow the route and quickened my steps.
I was about to cross when I heard a muffled cry and saw two teenage boys trying to steal money from a middle aged lady. The lady was apparently calling for help. I was jut too stunned. The boys had some kind of knife or blade in their hands.
Honestly, my first impulse was to run away. I didn’t want to get in between all that but when I saw that lady, I just couldn’t move. Her face was completely pale with fear, her eyes were pleading for help. In an instant, I imagined my wife standing in the same position and I knew what I had to do.
I lunged at the two boys. They had not expected such aggression from me. I caught hold of them and warned them with dire consequences. The boys left the lady and decided to run away. As they were snatching the knife from me, it’s blade cut my hand and I started bleeding profusely.
The lady was completely in shock. I tied my hand with the handkerchief and escorted her to the main road. She could just utter a heartfelt thanks. I knew she was extremely greatful. I wondered if she had kids waiting for her at home. I knew my kids were waiting for me. So I literally ran back to the house. You never know those boys might have returned with more people.
My wife was shocked to see my hand. We immediately went to the doctor who gave stitches to my wound. My wife has been taking care of me. She is very scared. She could only sleep after I promised that I will never come from that route again. She told me I was very brave and kissed my hand.
Oh God- I am so happy. I am kind of brave. I never knew I was. Everyone says that a person’s real nerve is tested in moments of crisis. I guess I am a brave guy.
I am super happy. let me take your leave now. Please take care. bye.
The ‘common man’ was happy for a few hours but very soon the pain in his hand became unbearable for him. It took two weeks for the stitches to go and in that time, he gave a very hard time to his family. The common man wondered why it was necessary to have wounds to become brave. It was really troublesome.
