Do you read comics? Well, I read comics and absolutely love them. They are too good. I can proudly say that comics are my life and a major source of entertainment for me.

Nowadays I find kids not very interested in comics. But this can be because they have so many means of entertainment. In our days, there were very few things and therefore, comics became very important during our growing up years.

I remember avidly reading mandrake and superman comics. My mom was so irritated by this habit of mine that she packed all my comics and threw them out of the house. It was only later that I discovered that she had locked them in a trunk hidden on the uppermost shelf in our house.

I used to spend all my pocket money on comic books. I had a gang of three friends who were comic lovers like me. They also had a huge collection of comics. We used to exchange comics and read them with delight. We did this for many years. Then suddenly one day- a friend of mine suggested that why don’t we open a comic rental shop in school vacations. It seemed a superb idea.

So me and my three friends set up our little comic rental shop in one of my friend’s garage. We were as enthusiastic as budding entrepreneurs. We arranged the books neatly in the garage and waited for the customers to come along. We had put handmade pamphlets on our school notice board.

While we waited for customers, we kept on reading the comics to pass away the time and often daydreamt about what we will do with the collected money. We had huge plans. Day after day passed and not even a single person thronged our shop.

Once a high school guy came and looked around but he found nothing interesting and immediately left. We were really sad. Our first ever venture had failed. Soon the vacations ended and we closed shop and started with our routine. It’s been many years now but the memory of my first attempt at business really makes me smile. We were really innocent then.

But now I must take your leave. I am thinking of going to the market. Please take care. Bye.

The visit to the market was an excuse for the ‘common man’. While shopping for groceries, he eagerly approached a comic book shop and bought his favourite comics.
