From last many months, I have been thinking about growing some herbs at my place. I am really very excited about it. The idea of growing my very own herbs and then using them fresh in dishes makes me feel good. Herbs are so very important and add so much to a dish.
My favourite herbs are oregano and rosemary. They are used quite a lot in Italian cuisine. Oregano is my all time favourite. I can add it to any dish and have it. The aroma of rosemary is simply too good. I love that. My mom’s favourite herb is parsley. She likes it a lot.
When I think about herbs, Indian cuisine comes to my mind. In Indian cuisine herbs and spices are used extensively. The very first spice that comes to mind is cinnamon. It is simply delicious. I also like the taste of carom seed and cumin seed.
Thanks to my wife’s interest in Indian things, I have become highly interested in Indian cuisine. I have always loved experimenting with food in my own small ways. And I owe this love to my mom who is the best cook in this world.
Whatever I know about cooking, I have learnt from my mom. I shared this idea of growing herbs at home with my mom and she is really very excited. She is looking forward to it now.
I always wonder about the people who discovered these herbs and spices and then used them to make delicious food. It must have been really tough and arduous. Today we take all these discoveries for granted. We only have to march to the nearby store and get readymade packets.
I know I am about to sound very stupid but I would have loved to go on an expedition and search new herbs and spices. I think I would have enjoyed it a great deal. This is something after my heart.
But then I would have not been writing all this account and talk with you all. I must have been busy climbing mountains and exploring jungles in search of that very precious herb.
It’s all fine. But I do whole heartedly support everyone who is out there doing the search and finding a new flavour for the world.
Cheers to them.
Let me take your leave now. Please take care. Bye.
The ‘common man’ made a tasty potato dish and added his favourite herbs to it. The aroma made him happy and content. He served the tasty dish to his kids and told them about herbs in detail. It made him happy.
