I started watching cartoons quite late in my life. Actually- when I was a kid, we used to hardly watch television. I used to read comic books. Comic books have always been my passion. But television somehow always took a back seat. Since my mom and sister were also not interested in television much so we used it mostly for news only.
I started watching television along with my kids. They introduced me to the world of cartoons and I confess I have grown richer by the experience. I wonder why people generally dismiss cartoons as being for kids only. All the cartoons and kid’s shows that I have watched have really educated me so much.
I watched with delight Abu and Jasmine in Arabian Nights moving from one adventure to another, I felt deep satisfaction when Nemo’s father found him, I watched every movie in the Shrek series with wonder. Tarzan, snowwhite, cindrella, duck tales, the jungle book- the list is endless.
It is an absolutely amazing world. These stories give such nice messages of love, unity, family ties, beauty, innocence and experience. Frankly speaking- today’s kids are very fortunate that they have such an enriching source of entertainment.
The visual medium always appeals to kids more than reading books. To think that while enjoying themselves, kids are also learning important lessons of life is really great. When my kids were small, they would wait very eagerly for their favourite shows. I started watching to see what they were watching and in the process got completely hooked.
My daughter loves the name Jasmine. My son loves the genie in Arabian nights. As for me- I love the desert and the magic carpet. It is a completely different world.
I don’t allow my kids to watch television much. But I don’t mind if they are watching something good. I have realized that kids relate more to these cartoons. They find shrek very, very cute. I am happy they are learning the right lessons.
But let me take your leave now. I have a cartoon date with my kids today. Please take care. Bye.
The ‘common man’ watched the ‘little mermaid’ with his kids. They all watched with delight as the world of ocean came alive on the screen. It was simply delightful.
