We are thinking to get our house painted. I had thought that the work will take only coming weekend. But I was so wrong. We didn’t even call the house painting store to begin the work. The reason being that we have not decided yet the shades we want to get painted.
I must say- it is a complete mess. I had decided coffee colour for the walls and even picked up the phone to call the house painting store when I was stopped by the shrieks of my two kids. They asked me indignantly what I was doing and lectured me for one full hour about the role of colours in our lives.
Well, I belong to the old school of thought where only one colour is painted on all walls in a house. But I understand that my kids find this idea ‘ancient’. Both of them have great plans as to what colour they want to have in their respective rooms and also in the living room. Thankfully- they have left the colour choice of my room to my own discretion.
My daughter wants her room to be painted in soft shade of pink. And my son wants his room to be painted in yellow. For the living room- they have decided mauve colour. What should I say? I sat and listened with horror. I can’t imagine mauve colour in my living room. I mean- mauve? How is this possible?
My wife looked at me with delight. She was enjoying the whole discussion. She has no problems with any colour. Infact she likes the idea of experimenting with colours on walls. She says it will bring a new element, a kind of fun in our lives.
My kids have told me that they will not settle for any other colour. They have issued an ultimatum. I don’t know what to do. I must go and check out with the paint store. I guess those guys know better. Pink, yellow and mauve- oh my God!!!!! It seems like a carnival. Let’s see what will happen now.
Let me take your leave. Please take care. Bye.
After much contemplation, the ‘common man’ agreed to all the colours his kids had suggested. It took him a long while to adjust with his ‘mauve’ surroundings but finally he admitted that it was indeed a refreshing change.
