Today I am feeling very proud of myself. I have saved a lot of money by sheer presence of mind. I wonder why I always underestimate myself. I should not do this. I guess this is the only fault with me. Let me tell you what happened.
We purchased a washing machine for home some time last year. It has been working nicely ever since but only two days before it suddenly stopped working. There was no apparent reason for this which means there was some problem with the machinery. Me and my wife decided to call the agency from which we purchased the machine.
We took out the billing papers and receipts and discovered that we had purchased the washing machine exactly one year before. I read the terms and conditions that clearly specified that we got a warranty for any defect in the machine for a period of one year after the purchase.
It was simply too good. We still had a day to register our complaint and get the machine repaired free of cost. Now my wife was very doubtful about the whole issue. She was not sure if the agency people would consider it since it was the very last day of our warranty period.
But I told her that rule is a rule. If we have purchased something from a good company and it has promised us something in return- then they must follow it up. So I picked up the phone and called the agency people. They checked my billing number and were more than happy to visit us and repair the machine. Within two hours- they sent their executive who inspected the machine.
The executive had to change the motor since it was not in working order. He went away after giving a demonstration and was very cordial. I must say that I was very impressed. I know for sure that the motor must have cost me a good deal of money.
I have never worked in a big organization and I am not aware of how they plan and execute things. But one thing I know as a customer. If a company satisfies the customer, if a company is efficient and it’s client service is good; then the goodwill it earns is more effectual than any flashy advertisement.
I feel happy when I see people working their jobs nicely. It inspires me to do mine more efficiently.
Let me take your leave now. I have to reach office. Please take care. Bye.
The ‘common man’ reached his office and worked with a new vigour and new energy. Yes- he was a small cog in the wheel, yes he was very common but he knew that mostly it is the little things that make difference. He was happy in his world.
