I read newspaper everyday. I started reading them quite late actually. I was in tenth standard, when it dawned upon me that I didn’t know anything happening around me. It was then that I started reading newspapers seriously. Ever since, reading newspaper has become a very essential part of my everyday life. I feel incomplete without reading one.
One of the most exciting parts in the newspaper is the ‘letter to editor’ column. I love reading the comments by newspaper readers. They tell me what other people thought about the article that I read. It is quite interesting actually.
I must confess that many a times I have had the temptation to write a letter to the editor myself. There have been articles that got me thinking and I wanted to write something about them. But somehow I never really got the courage. I know I am sounding stupid but I always feel that who would like to read my opinion. Moreover, there is nothing extraordinary about my opinions. They are very common- just like me.
To be honest, it would have been nice to see my letter in the newspaper. I know it is such an idle thing- people don’t even read the names underneath the letter- but still, it would have been different.
Newspapers are a great platform to know about our surroundings. I love them so much. I guess one day, I will gather enough courage to actually send a letter to the editor. Till then, I am happy writing down my views in my little diary.
My kids are always asking me not to think too much about the issue but they won’t understand. Let me take your leave now. Please take care. Bye.
The ‘common man’ opened the morning newspaper and was completely in shock to find his name with his letter in the ‘letter to the editor’ column. He simply couldn’t believe his eyes. He looked up to see both his kids smiling at him. This was their mischief. But he was not angry with them. He was really happy. That newspaper stayed with the common man for always. He cherished it a lot.
And yes- now there were many more newspapers with his name in the collection. The common man sent his letters with a new found confidence.
