I am very happy today. My kids today told me that they have been given assignment at school in which they are supposed to grow a potted plant and take care of it whole year. Every student has to do it and at the end of the term- they will be given grades for this assignment. The kids are being very serious and also excited now. They are looking forward to have plants of their own.

They have told me that all their school mates are doing the same thing. The teacher has made it clear that it is a very important project. At school, they will also tell the students about how they take care of plants. This is really very good.

I think this is a very positive and constructive step. This assignment will go a long way in making kids more responsible towards nature and especially plants. If not all- atleast some of them will start loving plants.

I have always loved plants a great deal. They make me feel so happy from inside. When I was a kid, my mom used to have so many potted plants full of red roses. She used to take care of them. It is because of her that I started loving plants. I grew up taking care of them. But later on, my wife and kids were not very enthusiastic about it. They always found the process a nuisance.

But now it seems- we are going to have plants again in our house. Even if is for grades, they will grow them. I am very sure, they will fall in love with them. Today they both came and asked me for tips to grow the plants properly. I couldn’t believe my ears. I am really happy.

I strongly feel that the lessons we learn as kids go a long way in building up the person we are. Kids are very sharp and unlike what most people think- they are intelligent. All schools should start with something like this. We need to make our planet a green planet.

The ‘common man’ helped his kids sow the seeds. The first leaf and first flower in the plant was a moment of joy in common man’s family. They all celebrated it like a festival. The common man was happy because now his home was a ‘green house’ in reality.
