I recently heard a new term- ‘metrosexual man’. My kids told me that I am not a metrosexual man. Well, I have no idea what that term means. I have heard about Neanderthal men, homosexual men and also bisexual men but this term took me completely by surprise.

My kids were not amused at all. They expected that I would have not idea at all about this term. A random search on the net told me that this term is a sophisticated version of being a ‘dandy’. My kids shrieked with horror when I told them this. They looked gravely offended. They asserted that a metrosexual man has nothing to do with being superficial. He is a much intelligent man who knows his needs and respects them also.

They went on to tell me that looking after one’s body has nothing to do with vanity. It is a matter of choice. If someone makes efforts to look nice, why should it be typed as vain or termed as being dandy. They both have great respect for men who have their regular manicures and pedicures.

Well- what should I say about this? I have lived nearly half my life without ever undergoing any special treatment other than a hair cut at a saloon. Over the years, I have seen the number of people increasing at saloon. The saloon has also become bigger and now specializes in a whole lot of things. Facials, colouring, waxing and God knows what. There are specially trained people who work there.

I have seen both middle aged men like me and young people enjoying all these services. The times have truly changed. Everyone wants to put their best foot forward. There is nothing wrong in that. It is absolutely fine.

I guess we are on the verge of a new era. I think I am wrong. I thing the new era has already begun without me noticing it. But I am happy my kids are prepared for this new age. For it is very important for them to understand it- they are the ones who will be an intrinsic part of it. I am glad the world has coined a new term- metrosexual men. It shows an acceptance of a new way of living and a new way of thinking.

The ‘common man’ was very happy when his wife told him that she loves him most. Apparently she wanted to reserve the right to have facials to herself. She found it funny that men opt for facials more than women.

Common man wondered why men are always blamed for being unyielding. Women equally guarded their so called territories fiercely.
